JKBOSE Reverts to March–November Academic Calendar for Winter Zones in J&K and Ladakh

Srinagar,(DD):In a significant policy reversal, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced the restoration of the March–November academic calendar for schools in the winter zone areas of Jammu division, Kashmir division, and the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The decision, formalized through an official notification issued on Wednesday, comes after widespread feedback from stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, and students, particularly from snowbound and remote regions. These communities had expressed challenges adapting to the earlier shift made in 2022, which aligned the winter zone academic calendar with the March session of other parts of the country.

According to JKBOSE officials, the revised calendar will be implemented from the 2025–26 academic session, affecting classes 10th to 12th. The board stated that the annual regular examinations in the winter zones of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will now be conducted in October and November instead of February and March.

This move is expected to provide relief to students who previously had to appear for board exams during harsh winter conditions, often facing infrastructural and transportation hurdles.

Education experts and school heads have largely welcomed the decision, citing it as a step toward ensuring a fair academic environment tailored to the region’s unique climatic conditions.
