Katra, (DD): Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized the significant transformation in Jammu and Kashmir since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. Speaking at the 10th convocation ceremony of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), he stated that the region is no longer seen as a conflict zone but as a hub of opportunity and development.
Highlighting the historical context, Dhankhar referenced Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s vision of “One Nation, One Constitution, One Symbol,” asserting that this goal has now been fulfilled. He also noted that the abrogation of Article 370 dismantled constitutional barriers, integrating J&K more closely with the rest of India.
Recalling his visit to the Valley in 1989, he described the stark contrast between the past unrest and the present surge in tourism and economic growth. He praised the record-breaking voter turnout in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the region’s rising investment interest, with proposals exceeding ₹65,000 crore, including foreign direct investments for the first time.
“Democracy has found its real voice, and J&K is now a land of trust, opportunity, and progress,” Dhankhar remarked, underscoring the shift from uncertainty to stability in the region.(DD)
