Jammu,(DD): The unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 6.1% for individuals aged 15 and above in 2023-24, according to official government data.

Responding to a query by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, the government stated that 3,70,811 unemployed youth have voluntarily registered on the employment portal as of January 2025.

To tackle unemployment, several self-employment schemes have been implemented, including Mumkin, Tejaswini, Mission Youth, PMEGP, and REGP, facilitating the creation of approximately 9.58 lakh self-employment opportunities since 2021. In the current fiscal year (2024-25) alone, 1.36 lakh opportunities have been generated.

Additionally, under the MGNREGA program, 3.01 crore person-days of employment have been created, benefiting 8.07 lakh households.

To further boost employment and entrepreneurship, the government has launched Mission YUVA, aiming to establish 1.35 lakh entrepreneurship units and create job opportunities for 4.5 lakh youth across the region.

The administration is also focusing on skill development and job fairs to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, encouraging private sector participation in employment generation(DD)
