JKSSB advertises 292 Junior Engineer Posts in PDD after four-year gap

DD Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced 292 vacancies for Junior Engineers (Electrical) in the Power Development Department (PDD), marking the first such recruitment drive in four years. The vacancies, advertised under Notification No. 02 of 2025, were made public on February 27, 2025.

According to the official notification, the vacancies are distributed as follows:

J&K Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL): 92 posts

Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL): 60 posts

Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL): 129 posts.

The online application process will begin on March 8, 2025, and will close on April 7, 2025.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) or AMIE (Sec A&B) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a three-year diploma in the relevant field. Only domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir are eligible to apply, with a valid domicile certificate required at the time of application.

The age limit for open merit candidates is 40 years, with relaxations for reserved categories as per government norms.

The announcement has been met with a positive response from engineering graduates and professionals in the power sector. The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) termed it a “much-needed step” to address the manpower shortage in PDD.

“We welcome this long-awaited recruitment drive, but the government must ensure a timely selection process and consider filling all remaining vacancies,” a JKEEGA spokesperson said.

Several aspiring engineers expressed cautious optimism. Mudasir Ahmad, an unemployed electrical engineering graduate, noted, “We have been waiting for this recruitment for years. Many of us had given up hope. I just hope the process is transparent and swift.”

Another candidate, Aqib Bashir, added, “In the past, delays in recruitment have led to uncertainty. We urge JKSSB to conduct exams without unnecessary postponements.”

Candidates must apply through the official JKSSB website (www.jkssb.nic.in), and selection will be based on a written examination. The syllabus and exam pattern will be detailed in the official notification.

This recruitment drive comes amid growing concerns over unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly among engineering graduates, who have faced limited opportunities in recent years. The government’s initiative is expected to provide a significant employment boost in the power sector.(DD)
