Srinagar, DD, The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Tuesday observed 5 August as Black Day against the undemocratic and unilateral downgrading of erstwhile princely state of J&K into two UT’s, reiterated Congress Party’s strong urge for restoration of complete statehood.

JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra led a peaceful protest in Srinagar in which Senior Congress Leaders Chief Whip in JKLA Nizam Udin Din Bhat, G.M.Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Surinder Singh Channi, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Abid Kashmiri, Irfan Naqib, Dr.Audil Farooq Mir Lasjan, Abdul Gani Khan, Arshid Ahmad Tantray, Er.Muzaffar, Sheikh Aijaz, Haji Farooq Mir, Yasir Nissar, Dr Waleed Karra and various other leaders and hundreds of prominent workers participated and raised slogans against the bifurcation of J&K on August 05, 2019,

Congress leaders led by PCC President who were scheduled to stage a peaceful sit-in at Maulana Azad Road in protest against downgrading of J&K were prevented by a heavy contingent of police and CRPF personnel and were not allowed to move out of Party office. The police used force to push back Congress leaders and locked the main gate of Srinagar Congress headquarter.

Speaking on the occasion JKPCC President Tariq Hammed Karra said that BJP Govt cannot deter Congress from taking Statehood fight to logical conclusion. We have launched a vigorous campaign under the banner Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq and subsequent public outreach programmes in the districts across J&K for restoration of Statehood, we will not stop till the dignity and honour of people is restored.

I want to tell the Modi Govt that another misadventure with respect to J&K would impact India globally, it would not help India in anyway. August 5 is not a day of pleasure, it is a sad day, a day of mourning for 1.40 crore people of J&K, Karra said.

People have been pushed to wall by downgrading J&K, which was an insult to their aspirations, Karra added and said we will not forget the disrespect meted out to Princely state of J&K, which was once a country, then full-fledged State, but the BJP Govt downgraded it to UT level, which has had never happened in the history rather UTs have made States, but the reality of J&K is different and contrary to the democratic system in India.

Karra slammed the delay in restoring Statehood, reiterating that congress Party will further intensify the statehood struggle and will take it to logical conclusion while urging the Party leaders and workers to intensify public outreach programmes under “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” which has become a household name and represents the urges and aspirations of 1.40 Corer residents of J&K, he said.

Senior Congress Leaders and Former Legislators included Mohd Amin Bhat, Abdul Raheem Rather, District President Mohd Iqbal Mir, Javed Ahmad Mir, Abdul Rashid Lone Umer Jaan, Senior Leader Fayaz Ahmad Mir and various other senior leaders were put under house arrest in Anantnag, Kulgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Pulwama. They were not allowed to stage peaceful sit-in dharna in their respective districts against the undemocratic bifurcation of J&K on Aug 5 in 2019.

The leaders termed the Govt action as undemocratic and a move to cover up the BJP’s Govt real face and it’s utter failures.DD
