Kashmir, Ladakh reel under intense cold Wave, Zojila freezes at -24°C

Srinagar records- 7.3 °C temperatures

Srinagar, TDD, As winter grips Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, temperatures in the region plummeted further, with Zojila Pass recording an extreme low of -24.0°C, making it the coldest spot in the Kashmir valley. The bone-chilling cold has brought life to a standstill in many areas, particularly in Kashmir and Ladakh.

In the Kashmir Valley, Pulwama and Shopian recorded the lowest temperatures at -9.5°C, followed closely by Anantnag at -9.2°C and Khudwani at -8.4°C. Even Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, shivered at -7.3°C, marking one of its coldest nights this season.

Meanwhile, in the Ladakh region, Leh and Kargil froze at -12.2°C and -12.9°C, respectively, while Drass, often referred to as the “Gateway to Ladakh,” recorded -17.7°C.

In the Jammu region, the winter chill was less severe, though Padder stood out with a frosty -8.8°C. Jammu city and Kathua remained relatively warmer at 8.0°C.

The cold wave has disrupted daily life, with frozen water pipes, slippery roads, and reduced visibility affecting mobility. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions as the harsh weather conditions are expected to persist.( TDD)
