Srinagar, (DD): The Kashmir Valley is expected to experience the hottest day of the season today, but relief is on the horizon as the Meteorological Department forecasts a spell of rainfall and a drop in temperatures beginning Sunday.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, said that maximum temperatures are likely to peak across the Valley on Saturday. “The heatwave is expected to subside from Sunday as rainfall is likely,” he said.
As per the detailed forecast, the weather from 6th to 8th July will remain generally cloudy, with intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many areas. Parts of the Jammu Division may experience intense rainfall and isolated heavy showers.
From 9th to 10th July, light to moderate rain is expected at scattered to many locations, while 11th and 12th July may bring back hot and humid conditions, with brief showers in some places.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a weather advisory, warning of possible flash floods in vulnerable locations, as well as landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones during the 6–8 July period.
The advisory further mentions a potential rise in water levels in rivers, streams, and nallahs, which could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Farmers have been advised to suspend irrigation and other field operations during this period to avoid crop damage and ensure safety(DD)
