Kathua:-TDD ,District administration Kathua today organised a programme in the Conference Hall of the DC Office complex to commemorate 4th Janjatiya Gourav Diwas.
The live transmission of National Level celebrations of Janjatiya Gourav Diwas lead by Prime Minister was also screened during the event.
DDC Chairman Col (Retd) Mahan Singh, Vice Chairman DDC Raghunandan Singh, ADC Kathua Ranjit Singh, PO ICDS Shokat Mahmood, CPO Ranjit Thakur and other district & sectoral officers were present.
The event unfolded with the highlighting of achievements made with regard to the tribal welfare in the district during the current financial year followed by administering of Pledge on Social Justice and Drug Free India by Chairman DDC besides reading of Preamble by ADC Kathua
During the programme, speakers besides throwing light on the life of great tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda in India’s freedom struggle also highlighted the cause of tribals.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairaman said the commemoration of Janjatiya Gourav Diwas is dedicated to appreciate the valued contributions made by Tribal community in varied fields. He also threw light on the development initiatives launched by Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi which have been extended to Kathua district for the upliftment of Tribal community.
Vice Chairman Raghunadan Singh said the day is observed to commemorate the valued contributions of the eminent warrior Bhagwan Birsa Munda, further appealed people to aspire from his life and work for the wholesome development of the society.
Later, the DDC Chairman and Vice Chairman also gave away financial assistance to the member of tribal community under different beneficiary oriented schemes.
Pertinently, the Government of India has decided to recognize November 15 as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ from 2021 onwards. This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Tribal Freedom Fighter “Birsa Munda,” a revered figure who not only fought for freedom but also championed social reform and led the tribal movement known as Ulgulan (Revolt) against the exploitative systems of the British Colonial Government.
