Kathua-Basohli-Doda Corridor to Enhance Connectivity in J&K by 2025: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Udhampur/Jammu, Sep 24: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said the construction of the Kathua-Basohli-Doda corridor, is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to be completed by 2025.

Says, the project, covering a length of 250 kilometers, has a budget allocation of RS: 450 crore.

Speaking at an event in Basohli, Gadkari said the importance of the corridor for the region. “Once completed, the road will provide a direct route from Punjab to Srinagar, bypassing Jammu, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time,” he said. “The project will also ensure year-round connectivity between Kathua and other parts of the region, including Doda,” he added.

The minister acknowledged the ongoing work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and noted that progress is being made on a critical 7-kilometer stretch at Chattar Kala, which will provide all-weather access.

“This road is a lifeline for many remote areas, and we are committed to completing it on time,” Gadkari said, adding that the government’s infrastructure push is aimed at transforming the region’s road network.

In the meanwhile, he added the corridor is part of a larger infrastructure initiative to boost development and accessibility in Jammu and Kashmir. Gadkari said the government is focused on improving connectivity in the region through extensive road and tunnel projects.

“The project is expected to play a crucial role in improving the socio-economic landscape of the area, providing better access for both residents and tourists, and boosting local economies through improved transport links,” he said.—(TDD)
