Kishtwar,DD, In a proactive move to enhance the safety of school-going children, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar, Tasleem Wani, has initiated a district-wide audit of school buses and vans. The initiative aims to ensure strict compliance with vehicle fitness standards, driver qualifications, safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
The audit will particularly focus on the installation and functionality of CCTV cameras, which are essential for monitoring student commutes and deterring any misconduct. Additionally, checks are being conducted on vehicle fitness certificates, emergency equipment, and the adherence of drivers to safety norms such as valid licenses, uniform codes, and alcohol-free operation.
“This drive is part of our commitment to creating a secure transportation environment for students. Our goal is to identify any potential risks and ensure all operators meet the required safety standards,” said ARTO Tasleem Wani.
Authorities are also working closely with school administrations to raise awareness and encourage collaboration in maintaining safe travel conditions. The audit findings will be used to make targeted recommendations for improvement, including mandatory upgrades and stricter enforcement where violations are found.
