Kishtwar, DD, J&K The much-awaited Rifleman Ravi Kumar Memorial Cricket Tournament was inaugurated today at Chowgan Maidan, Kishtwar, by the Indian Army’s Kishtwar Battalion under Operation Sadbhavna. The tournament began with an exciting match featuring girls’ teams—‘Combined Lohidar’ vs. ‘Rising Champions’, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm and participation from local women cricketers.
This year’s tournament has witnessed a record-breaking participation, with:
68 teams competing in the Men’s category,
11 teams in the Under-15 Boys category, and
3 teams in the Girls’ category.
The tournament will continue throughout February and March, with the final match scheduled for the last week of March.
The event has drawn significant local support, with a large crowd cheering on the players. The tournament is aimed at fostering sportsmanship, youth engagement, and community development, strengthening the bond between the Indian Army and the local population.
The initiative under Operation Sadbhavna is a testament to the Army’s continuous efforts in promoting peace, talent development, and empowerment of youth in Jammu & Kashmir.DD
