Kishtwar Honored with State/UT Award for Best Electoral Practices

Kishtwar,DD,On the occasion of the 15th National Voters’ Day the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajesh Kumar Shavan the former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr Devansh Yadav, IAS, NLMT/IIIDEM-ECI Riaz Ahmed Butt, has bagged the State/UT award for the Best Electoral Practices-2025 from the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Manoj Sinha at Zorwar Auditorium University of Jammu at the UT level function organised by Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir.

District Kishtwar has witnessed the conduct of two grand elections, Lok Sabha-2024 followed by Assembly Elections -2024 which was held almost after the gap of ten years. Under the able guidance of Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, DEO Kishtwar R.K Shavan, ROs/AROs, different Nodal officers, and other concerned officers/officials conducted both the elections quite successfully with highest turnout district in J&K.

Out of 90 assembly constituencies in J&K, UT 48-Inderwal Assembly constituency followed by 49-Kishtwar and 50- Padder-Nagseni witnessed the highest turnout more than 80% and scores of polling stations got cent percent turnout a unique achievement.

Lok Sabha election-2024 was conducted under the able leadership of Dr Devansh Yadav, IAS and his team including ADC Kishtwar, ACR Kishtwar and SDM Padder (ROs/AROs) in tough conditions in terms of challenging weather and unique tough terrain.

On the similar pattern under the command of Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Assembly election-2024 was conducted peacefully, incident free with highest turnout.

Conducting elections in Kishtwar district remains always a challenge especially keeping in view its shadow zones and tough terrain. Keeping all odds aside district Kishtwar succeeded in every aspect with regard to its peaceful conduct of elections.

The misinformation and fake narratives spread instantaneously and with alarming speed but all officers concerned with conduct of both elections tackled the situations quite easily under rules and provided the level playing field for all stakeholders.

Social media was encouraged with regard to spreading positive news about conduct of elections and its vigorous monitoring resulted the fruits.DD
