Kishtwar :TDD,In a significant step towards combating tuberculosis (TB), the District Health Society Kishtwar today launched the Adult BCG Vaccination Drive at the District Tuberculosis Centre, Kishtwar.
The initiative was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, under the aegis of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
The event witnessed the presence of senior healthcare officials, including Dr Rajinder Kumar, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kishtwar, Dr. Sat Lal Manhas, Block Medical Officer (BMO), Dr. Sajjad Hussain, District Immunisation Officer, and Dr. Nazir Hussain, Medical Officer. Supporting the drive were Mr. Mubashir Bin Muzamil (DMEIO Kishtwar), Mr. Arvind Chauhan (VCCM Kishtwar), and Mr. Ravi Kumar (DEO Block Kishtwar), along with dedicated CMO, BMO, and DTC staff and ASHA workers.
The vaccination drive saw an enthusiastic response, with over 50 individuals receiving the BCG vaccine on the first day at TB Hospital Kishtwar. The initiative aims to bolster immunity among adults and protect them against tuberculosis, which remains a public health challenge.
Addressing the event, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Rajesh Kumar Shavan emphasized the district’s commitment to achieving the goals of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme. He applauded the efforts of healthcare workers and encouraged the public to actively participate in the campaign to make Kishtwar TB-free.
Dr. Rajinder Kumar reiterated the importance of the BCG vaccine in reducing TB cases and urged everyone, particularly those at risk, to avail the free vaccination. He commended the health teams for their dedication to the cause.
The campaign will continue across Kishtwar district, ensuring accessibility to vaccines and raising awareness about TB prevention. The District Health Society aims to vaccinate more individuals in the coming days, working closely with ASHA workers and medical teams.TDD
