Kishtwar,(DD): In a major breakthrough, the Kishtwar Police solved two theft cases involving stolen hardware and kiryana items, leading to the arrest of six accused and the recovery of stolen property worth ₹5 lakh.
The first case was reported on January 7, 2025, when Mohd Farooq, proprietor of Shalimar Glass House, lodged a complaint about the theft of geysers and other hardware items from his store. An FIR (No. 09/2025) under sections 305/331(4) BNS was promptly registered at Police Station Kishtwar.
Four days later, on January 11, Raman Gupta, a resident of Shakti Nagar, Kishtwar, filed another complaint about the theft of kiryana items from his shop. In response, FIR No. 14/2025 under sections 331(4)/305 BNS was registered.
Taking swift action, SSP Kishtwar Sh. Javaid Iqbal Mir-JKPS formed a special investigation team led by SHO Police Station Kishtwar, Insp. Firdous Ahmed, under the supervision of i/c Dy. SP Headquarters, Sajad Khan Utilizing a mix of technical intelligence and investigative expertise, the team zeroed in on the prime suspect, Rahul Singh of Kuleed Chowk, Kishtwar.
Based on Singh’s confession, five accomplices were arrested and identified as: Rahul Singh, S/o Mangal Singh, R/o Near TRC, Kishtwar, Abdul Hamid, S/o Ghulam Nabi, R/o Melan, Kishtwar, Mohd Rafi, S/o Ghulam Kadir, R/o Dhar, A/p Drabshalla, Kishtwar, Abhishek Mahajan, S/o Kewal Kishore, R/o Udhampur City, A/p Thathri City, Doda, Irshad Ahmed, S/o Late Mohd Hussain, R/o Thathri Market, Doda and Rajesh Kumar Gupta, S/o Bodh Raj Gupta, R/o Kandani, Kishtwar
Interrogation revealed the locations of the stolen goods, which were successfully recovered from multiple spots.
SSP Kishtwar commended the police team for their diligence and issued a strong warning to anti-social elements, stating, “Kishtwar Police will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice and public safety. Criminal activities like theft or sabotage will be met with the full force of the law.”(DD)
