KPDCL urges consumers to seize final opportunity under power amnesty sheme: March 31, 2025 Deadline Looms

The Diplomat Desk

Srinagar, (TDD): The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has issued an urgent final reminder to domestic consumers, urging them to settle their outstanding dues under the Government’s Power Amnesty Scheme before the deadline of March 31, 2025.

After this date, no further extensions will be granted, and consumers will lose the chance to benefit from the significant waiver on late payment surcharges.

Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, Er. Aaquib Waheed Deva, in a statement, underscored the importance of clearing balances within the remaining four months to avail the scheme, which allows domestic consumers to pay their principal amount either in full or through equal installments without any late payment penalty.

The Power Amnesty Scheme, which has already benefitted 1,09,648 domestic consumers, has collected a total of Rs. 164 crore, significantly helping to clear outstanding balances. The government has waived off Rs. 58 crore in late payment surcharges, providing substantial relief to consumers who had accumulated arrears.

“The scheme offers a unique opportunity to clear long-standing dues, and consumers must act swiftly to take advantage of this chance. Once the scheme expires, there will be no further waivers, and we will be forced to pursue legal action, including disconnections,” warned Er. Aaquib Waheed Deva.

KPDCL is encouraging the remaining 41,259 consumers with outstanding balances to visit their respective Electric Subdivisions and settle their bills before the deadline. The scheme has been a pivotal move to address arrears and improve financial health in the power sector, and KPDCL is urging all eligible consumers to act now and avoid future consequences. (TDD)
