Ladakh Administration extends Early Bird Incentive

Diplomat Correspondent

Leh: DD, The Transport Department, Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has announced the extension of the Early Bird Incentive (EBI) under the Ladakh Electric Vehicle and Allied Infrastructure Policy, 2022, up to 31st March 2027, with immediate effect.

The Ladakh Electric Vehicle and Allied Infrastructure Policy, notified vide Order No. 09-Trans(UTL) of 2022 dated 17.08.2022, initially offered a one-year Early Bird Incentive to promote Electric Vehicle adoption by providing subsidies/rebates on the ex-showroom prices of various categories of EVs.

Following the expiry of the initial incentive period, EV adoption remained low across Ladakh.

However, with the recent notification of the Ladakh Vehicle Scrapping Policy, 2025, the establishment of a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) and the installation of EV charging stations across the UT, several key barriers limiting EV uptake have now been addressed.

The Planning, Development, and Monitoring Department has also approved subsidy allocation under the policy to be utilized by the Transport Department for facilitating the Early Bird Incentive for eligible beneficiaries.

Considering requests from transporters and stakeholders, and in exercise of the powers under Para 7.1 of the Operational Guidelines of the EV Policy, the Administration of Ladakh has decided to extend the EBI to ensure broader access and encourage faster adoption of Electric Vehicles in the region.

The extension of the Early Bird Incentive is expected to significantly boost Ladakh’s transition towards sustainable and eco-friendly mobility.DD
