LAHDC Leh Chairs Meeting with Merchant Association to Address Key Market and Regulatory Issues

Leh:DD,The Chairman/CEC,Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC Leh, in the presence of DC/CEO,LAHDC Leh Santosh Sukhadeve convened a meeting in the Conference Hall of the Council Secretariat to deliberate on a range of issues raised by the Merchant Association, Leh.

The meeting brought together key officials and representatives to collectively address concerns impacting business regulation, urban coordination, and market practices in Leh town.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Planning Officer, Leh; Assistant Commissioner, Labour, Leh; Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Leh; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Leh; and Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Leh along with other officials.

During the discussions, various matters concerning trade license policies, traffic management, labor documentation, food safety regulations, and the overall functioning of the local market were brought to the table. Issues such as the high late fee on trade license renewal, inadequate renewal timelines, congestion in the core market areas, delays in labor-related certification.

The CEC assured all stakeholders that steps will be taken to address these concerns with a view to streamline procedures while keeping the local economy and traditions in mind.
He gave the assurance that the trade license penalty will be regulated to a monthly basis rather than a daily charge, and that the renewal timeline will be extended till the end of June, he also passed directions to the Municipal Committee with regard to issuing monthly licenses and ensuring appropriate oversight. Additionally, he instructed that all slaughterhouses must have proper enclosures, including the installation of black windows, to uphold hygiene standards and maintain public decency.
Additionally, he suggested that a cleanliness drive, be held around June 5, with special focus on the Indus riverfront.

In conclusion, he called upon the Merchant Association and all departments to work together in a coordinated manner.DD
