LG Manoj Sinha orders termination of three J&K Govt employees over alleged terror links

Diplomat Desk

Srinagar, (DD): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the termination of three government employees over their alleged involvement in terror-related activities. The dismissed employees include Firdous Ahmad Bhat (a police constable), Mohammad Ashraf Bhat (a teacher), and Nisar Ahmad Khan (an orderly in the Forest Department).

Sources told Diplomat Digital that the terminations have been carried out under proviso (c) of sub-section (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India. This provision allows the government to dismiss employees without holding an inquiry if conducting one is deemed impractical in the interest of state security.

This action is part of the J&K administration’s ongoing crackdown on individuals in government service suspected of having links with militant or anti-national activities. In recent years, several employees have been dismissed under similar provisions, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

While the administration maintains that such steps are necessary to ensure that government institutions remain free of elements involved in subversive activities, previous instances of dismissals have led to legal and political debates, with some employees challenging their terminations in courts.

The latest move is likely to stir discussions among political and civil rights groups, particularly regarding due process and transparency in such cases.(DD)
