Srinagar, (TDD)Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered a powerful address at the Passing Out Parade of 61 newly trained Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) at the Police Academy in Udhampur on January 7, 2025.

The ceremony marked a significant moment in the professional development of the officers, who are now tasked with upholding law and order in Jammu and Kashmir, a region facing complex security challenges.

In his speech, the Lieutenant Governor commended the J&K Police for its pivotal role in the country’s internal security, particularly in the face of constant threats. He highlighted the immense courage and dedication of the state’s police force and other security agencies in maintaining national integrity and ensuring public safety. Noting the challenging circumstances under which they operate, LG Sinha underscored the necessity of modernizing the approach to policing in the region.

LG Sinha emphasized that the threat landscape in Jammu and Kashmir has evolved, with new challenges such as cyber threats, narco-terrorism, and disinformation campaigns. He stressed the need for the newly inducted DySPs to embrace innovative technological tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance the capabilities of the police force in addressing these growing threats. By using technology effectively, he said, the police can stay ahead of criminals and terrorists, responding rapidly to emerging challenges and preemptively addressing security concerns.

The Lieutenant Governor called for a shift from reactive to proactive policing, urging the officers to adopt a strategic approach that anticipates threats rather than merely responding to them. He also called for greater coordination between the police and other security agencies through a “Whole of Government Approach,” which he believes will help dismantle the complex networks of terrorism, separatism, and cross-border criminal activity.

Furthermore, LG Sinha reiterated the importance of strong investigative processes and successful prosecution in maintaining the rule of law. He highlighted the critical need for J&K Police not only to neutralize terrorists but also to target the divisive elements and individuals supporting terrorism and separatism. Addressing the young officers, the LG urged them to bring new ideas, tools, and methods to their work, particularly in combating narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.

The Lieutenant Governor concluded his speech by paying tribute to the brave officers and jawans who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation, reinforcing the unwavering commitment of J&K Police to ensuring a terror-free and secure Jammu and Kashmir. As the new DySPs take on their roles, they are entrusted with the vital responsibility of safeguarding the region, maintaining peace, and fostering a secure environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.(TDD)
