Srinagar, DD, The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, felicitated the winners of the Kashmir Marathon-2025 at a grand ceremony in Srinagar today. The Full and Half Marathon events — spanning 42 km and 21 km respectively — were organized by the J&K Tourism Department, witnessing participation from around 1100 runners representing 27 States, Union Territories, and 11 foreign countries.

Addressing the participants and officials, the Lieutenant Governor said the enthusiastic participation of over a thousand runners reflected the unifying spirit of the Marathon and its role in strengthening brotherhood through shared experiences.

“Within two years of its launch, the Kashmir Marathon has emerged as one of the most prestigious running tournaments in the country. It has instilled pride, passion, and inspired a new generation of runners. I am confident that in the near future, the Marathon will draw greater participation and act as a major economic catalyst for our tourism sector,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Highlighting the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, Manoj Sinha said that the progress achieved has been made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Jammu and Kashmir is the crown jewel of India — a paradise on earth with its rich heritage and vibrant culture. I express my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the historical transformation taking place here, building a Jammu and Kashmir that blends modernity with spirituality,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also urged the people of the Union Territory to make the most of opportunities presented by the international event.
“Let us use the Kashmir Marathon to showcase our cultural heritage, arts, crafts, and tourism potential to the world,” he added.

The event was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg; DIG Central Kashmir Range Rajiv Pandey; SSP Srinagar Dr. GV Sundeep Chakravarthy; and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, along with senior civil and police officials.

Film actor Suniel Shetty, prominent citizens, sportspersons, and a large number of youth were also present at the felicitation ceremony.(KNC)
