Udhampur :TDD- Congress District working President Sumeet Magotra was called to inspect the ongoing National Highway construction work after residents of Siyal Salan and Thanda Badar raised serious safety concerns. During a walking tour of the neighborhoods adjacent to the highway, locals highlighted several critical issues.
According to residents, while the National Highway widening work is progressing, there is no safe passage for people living in adjacent neighborhoods to cross to the other side of the highway. This forces them to risk their lives while crossing the busy road. The former Sarpanch of the area also brought these concerns to Magotra’s attention, emphasizing the urgency of finding a solution.
Magotra noted that after the highway construction, many residents have their farmland on one side and homes on the other. This creates a dangerous situation where people, often carrying fodder for livestock, must wait for opportunities to cross the highway amid fast-moving vehicles.
The local community, comprising approximately 200 families including school-going children, has requested the construction of either an overbridge or an underpass for safe crossing. Magotra assured the residents that he would meet with the District Commissioner the following day to discuss their demands with the National Highway authorities to prevent any potential accidents.
This safety issue requires immediate attention as it affects daily commute of hundreds of residents, including children, and poses significant risks to their lives. The community hopes for a swift resolution through the construction of proper crossing infrastructure.TDD
