Machail Mata Yatra Officially Begins; Concerns Raised Over Lack of Basic Facilities in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, DD, The Machail Mata Yatra, the third-largest pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir, officially commenced today, drawing thousands of devotees from across the country. The yatra, which culminates at the revered Machail Mata Temple in the remote Padder area of Kishtwar district, is a significant annual religious event.

However, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of adequate facilities for the pilgrims. Mahant Shri Ram Sharan Das Maharaj of Gauri Shankar Temple, Sirkoot, stated that the Kishtwar district administration has not made any special arrangements for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

“There are heaps of garbage across several points in Kishtwar, and a severe shortage of mobile toilet vans is likely to cause inconvenience to the pilgrims,” said Mahant Ram Sharan Das. He urged the administration to immediately address the hygiene and sanitation issues and ensure all basic amenities are in place.

Local residents and devotees have also echoed similar concerns, calling upon Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar to take urgent steps for providing proper infrastructure and security arrangements.

Security remains a key focus this year, as intelligence reports suggest increased terrorist movement in parts of the district in recent months. Despite this, officials have assured that adequate deployment of forces is in place, and all possible measures are being taken to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

The Machail Mata Yatra will continue until September 5, with thousands expected to trek through the mountainous route to seek the blessings of Mata Chandi.DD
