Srinagar,(DD): Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing her condolences over the Pahalgam terror attack and raising concerns about the safety of Kashmiris in other parts of the country.
Mehbooba conveyed her deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended solidarity with the bereaved families. “We stand with the nation in this hour of grief,” she said, condemning the attack in the strongest terms.
During the conversation, she also urged the Home Minister to take immediate action against threats being issued to Kashmiri students and traders in various states. “Certain elements are openly targeting Kashmiris, using this tragedy to fuel hate and intimidation. I requested the Home Minister to intervene without delay and ensure their safety,” she said.
Calling for unity and calm, Mufti stressed that no Indian citizen should face backlash for the actions of a few. “Kashmiris must not be made scapegoats. We need reassurance from the highest levels that their lives and livelihoods matter,” she added.
Her remarks come amid growing concerns over sporadic reports of harassment and discrimination faced by Kashmiris outside the region in the wake of the terror strike.(DD)
