Mendhar, Poonch (J&K) DD,The border town of Mendhar witnessed an extraordinary display of unity and determination as the Mendhar Marathon 2025 was successfully conducted on Monday, in close proximity to the Line of Control (LoC). The event, organised under the ongoing Mendhar Festival 2025, drew an overwhelming response from residents across the region, transforming the rugged border landscape into a vibrant sporting arena.
Over 1500 runners participated in the second edition of the marathon, making it one of the largest public sports gatherings in the district. The initiative was aimed at promoting physical fitness, encouraging youth engagement, and further strengthening the civil–military relationship in the area.
The Commander, Bhimber Gali Brigade, flagged off the event as the Chief Guest and lauded the enthusiasm of young participants. He urged the youth to adopt fitness as a way of life and highlighted the opportunities available for them in national services, including the Armed Forces.
The marathon also featured spirited cultural performances, with local Dhol artists and a Zumba team from Jammu boosting pre-event excitement and energising participants before the run.
Held in a sensitive zone along the LoC, the successful conduct of the marathon stands as a symbol of peace, confidence, and the indomitable spirit of border residents. Officials expressed optimism that such initiatives will continue to encourage sports culture in remote regions, providing emerging athletes a platform to showcase their talent at higher levels.
