The girls’ volleyball tournament was the highlight of today’s action at the Mendhar Sports Festival, held at Govt. Degree College, Mendhar on 27 November 2025. Organised by Mendhar Bn / Bhimber Gali Brigade under Operation Sadbhavana, the championship brought together eight enthusiastic teams from the Mendhar‑Poonch region. The event was more than a competition; it was a platform for young women to perform, lead and be seen.

The seven teams that took to the court were GDC Mendhar, HSS Uchhad I, Eklavya Model
Residential School, HSS Uchhad I, GHS Mankot, and GHSS Mendhar II. From the opening serve to the final point, the matches were full of energy, skill and good sportsmanship. Spectators filled the stands, cheering every points showing support to their teams, creating a supportive atmosphere that encouraged the players to give their best.

The tournament aligns with the broader aim of the Mendhar Festival: to empower youth, promote a healthy lifestyle. By giving girls a dedicated stage, Operation Sadbhavana helps them build confidence, develop teamwork and inspire younger girls in the community to take up sports.

The championship also highlighted the progress made since last year’s girls’ volleyball event, which set a strong foundation and sparked greater interest in the sport. This year’s participation was the highest yet, with teams traveling from nearby villages to compete. The matches demonstrated how far the region’s female athletes have come and how much more they can achieve with continued support.

Looking ahead, the festival will continue with a packed schedule of events. After today’s girls’ matches, Kho‑Kho (boys on 28 Nov and girls on 29 Nov), athletics on 1 Dec, a cricket tournament from 2‑5 Dec, the Mendhar Marathon on 9 Dec and the grand finale and prize‑distribution ceremony on 11 Dec 2025. The final ceremony will celebrate all participants, award medals and feature cultural performances that showcase the achievements of both girls and boys.

The girls’ volleyball championship has already left a lasting impact. It has shown that when communities come together to support their young women, the result is not just a sporting event but a catalyst for social change. The tournament has given the girls a chance to be seen, to lead on the court and to inspire the next generation. As the festival moves forward, the focus remains on providing opportunities, fostering empowerment and building a healthier, and confident Mendhar.DD
