Minor Students as Labourers: A Shocking Reality in J&K’s Kathua, CEO Orders Probe

Arun Jasrotia
Kathua ,TDD,In a blatant disregard for educational norms, a disturbing video has surfaced showcasing young students from Government Primary School Chak Phoolan in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, being exploited as manual laborers. The video depicts children toiling away, carrying heavy loads of sand, a task far removed from the learning environment they should be immersed in.

Local sources allege that despite ample funds allocated for school maintenance, corrupt practices within the school administration have led to the misuse of these resources. To cut costs, school authorities have resorted to the shocking practice of using innocent children as cheap labor.

Following the public outcry, the Chief Education Officer of Kathua, Mangat Ram Sharma, has taken cognizance of the matter and ordered a thorough investigation. A committee has been formed to probe the incident and submit a detailed report within three days.

This appalling incident underscores the urgent need for stringent oversight and accountability within the education department. Such blatant exploitation of children not only undermines their right to education but also jeopardizes their physical and mental well-being. It is imperative that swift and decisive action is taken to rectify this grave issue and ensure that such incidents are never repeated.TDD
