New Delhi, (DD) The Ministry of Defence has expressed its appreciation for the continued interest and support of the media in highlighting the activities, achievements, and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces – the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Media engagement plays a vital role in keeping the public informed and fostering a deeper understanding of national security matters.
In the context of ongoing operations such as Operation Sindoor, senior officers from across the Armed Forces have naturally drawn public attention due to their leadership roles. However, the Ministry has observed that this increased media focus has, in some instances, extended beyond professional coverage into the personal lives of officers and their families.
Reports have emerged of media personnel visiting officers’ residences, attempting to contact family members, and pursuing stories unrelated to their official duties. Such actions are inappropriate and potentially compromising to the dignity, privacy, and safety of the officers and their families. While officers may serve in high-profile public roles, their families are private citizens and deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and discretion.
In light of this, all media organisations are advised to observe the following:
Refrain from visiting or attempting to contact the private residences or family members of serving or retired Armed Forces personnel for personal stories or interviews.
Maintain focus on professional conduct and operations in media coverage, and avoid intrusions that may cause distress or breach personal privacy.
The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to transparent and respectful engagement with the media, while ensuring the well-being and dignity of the personnel who serve the nation.(DD)
