Moral Decay in Politics– A Wake-Up Call

The true essence of politics lies in service. It is a sacred responsibility performed with the spirit of building a nation and addressing the concerns of its people. Politicians are meant to be role models, guiding society through their character, vision, and leadership. Sadly, modern-day politics seems to have lost this noble essence. What was once considered an act of worship and public service has now become tainted with self-interest, lust for power, and moral decline.

One of the most disturbing trends in contemporary politics is the collapse of ethical standards and the degradation of language. Democracy thrives on differences of opinion, but when disagreements turn into personal attacks and abusive language, it not only discredits politics but also pollutes the moral fabric of society. The most unfortunate aspect is the increasing tendency of politicians to drag mothers into political rivalries. Whether alive or departed, mothers are sacred figures in every culture, religion, and civilization. Using derogatory remarks against them is not just political misconduct; it is a direct insult to humanity itself.

A mother embodies sacrifice, compassion, and the foundation of human values. To insult a mother, any mother, is to degrade the very principles upon which societies are built. When political leaders stoop to such lows, they not only tarnish their own image but also destroy the culture of respect and civility that holds communities together.

This raises an important question: if our leaders use such foul language in public forums, what will the younger generation learn? When politicians replace reasoned arguments with vulgarities, tolerance and respect disappear from society. Democracy is more than just casting a vote; it is an ethical framework built on dialogue, respect, and civility.

Politicians must realize that the people are observing not just their policies but also their behavior and words. Abusive language may temporarily draw applause from partisan crowds, but in the long run, it eats away at a leader’s credibility. History remembers only those leaders who upheld dignity and restraint, even while fiercely disagreeing with their opponents.

It is imperative for political parties and leaders to collectively condemn this dangerous trend. Those who resort to such vulgar behavior should face strict disciplinary action. Media and civil society, too, must play their part in ensuring that political discourse remains serious, constructive, and dignified.

We must remind ourselves that if politics is worship, its ultimate aim is service, not humiliation of opponents. The dignity of mothers stands above every political ambition. If leaders cross this sacred boundary, it reflects not only their personal downfall but also poses a grave warning for society as a whole. The time has come to restore ethics and decency in politics and to teach the coming generations that disagreement is natural, debate is essential, but respect for mothers is non-negotiable.DD
