‘Security agencies on alert after second seizure of cash on the border crossing route’

KATHUA: DD, Police today claimed to have seized Rs 35 lakhs and 8 thousand rupees cash from a private vehicle in Kathua District on Jammu-Punjab border.
As per the police, they had established a naka late night Baghthali in Kathua district.
It was during the checking of the vehicle, the police team in presence of the magistrate intercepted an i-20 car and checked it.
To their surprise, the police recovered a bag full of cash.
“The police seized Rs 35 lakhs and 8 thousand cash from the bag, and seized the said car,” said the police sources.
However, the driver of the car escaped before he could be caught by the police. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
It may be important to remind here that a few days back, police in Lakhanpur had recovered Rs 3 crores and 36 lakhs cash from a vehicle and detained two people.
Although both the detained persons were released, the investigation was taken up by the agencies to ascertain the source of the case.
The second seizure of the cash on the Jammu-Punjab border has alarmed the security agencies and they have started a coordinated investigation to ascertain the facts.DD
