Srinagar, (TDD): On the 9th anniversary of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, founder of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a tribute event at Dara Shikoh, Bijbheara, brought together party members, supporters and senior leaders to honor his lasting impact on the region.
During the gathering, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti remembered her father’s visionary leadership, stressing his commitment to “peace with dignity” and his tireless work for the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir’s people.
Reflecting on his tenure as Chief Minister from 2002 to 2005, she emphasized Mufti Sayeed’s pragmatic approach that shaped the region’s governance despite the PDP holding just 16 seats. She lauded his initiatives that bridged gaps between Delhi and Kashmir, including opening the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, which facilitated cross-border trade and family reunions.
Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her concerns over the current administration, accusing it of failing to address crucial issues such as rising unemployment, unjust employee terminations, and the erosion of merit-based opportunities. She strongly criticized the government for its divisive policies that, according to her, are dividing the youth and people of Jammu and Kashmir along quota lines.
The event concluded with PDP leaders pledging to continue Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s legacy of peace, inclusivity and justice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir (TDD)
