Multiple Theft Cases Cracked: 5 Women Among 13 Arrested

₹27 Lakh Worth Stolen Goods Including Gold, Diamond Jewellery, Copper Wire, and Vehicles recovered

Jammu:DD, In a major breakthrough, Jammu Police claimed to have arrested 13 persons, who were allegedly involved in various theft and had stolen Rs 27 lakhs goods including gold, diamond jewellery, copper wire, and vehicles.

Addressing a press conference here, SP South, Ajay Sharma said that under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu and the leadership of SP City South, SDPO City South and SHO PS Gandhi Nagar has successfully cracked 6 theft cases including 2 snatching cases and 1 theft case of vital BSNL telecom infrastructure through the tireless efforts of Police Station Gandhi Nagar and Police Post Digiana within a time period of two and a half months, leading to the arrest of 13 accused, including one minor, and the recovery of stolen property worth more than ₹27 lakh.

Chain Snatching, Motorcycle Theft, and Construction Material Theft

Following written complaints at Police Station Gandhi Nagar regarding multiple incidents in Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar areas, including chain snatching, motorcycle theft, and theft of construction material. Four First Investigation Reports (FIRS) were filed at the respective police stations two for chain snatching, one for motorcycle theft and one for theft of construction material.

Acting promptly, a special team was constituted by SP City South, led by PSI Maan Singh under the close supervision of SHO PS Gandhi Nagar and SDPO City South. CCTV footage and Smart City surveillance were analysed to identify and apprehend the culprits.

Accordingly, the investigation was taken up and the suspected persons were rounded up for their questioning. It was during the questioning, they confessed their involvement in the crime/theft cases.

The accused were identified by the police as Pardeep Singh, resident of Resham Ghar Colony; and Virinder Singh, resident of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and they were involved in chain snatching.

Meanwhile, the police have also recovered two snatched gold chains from Mohammed Sadiq, resident of Miran Sahib. He, according to the police, was also involved in motorcycle theft.

The police have recovered the stolen motorbike bearing registration number JK02CE-7803.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested two other persons, who were identified as Fazal Hussain, resident near hospital Jammu, and Chandan Kumar, resident of Bihar at present Greater Kailash. Both of them were involved in stealing construction material.

The police have recovered the stolen material and a suspected stolen scooty on their disclosure.

Besides, the police have also solved the BSNL infrastructure theft with the arrest of five women.

Police had registered a case regarding the theft of BSNL telecom infrastructure near the back gate of District Police Line (DPL) Jammu. Acting swiftly, the police apprehended five women, all residents of Pati Road, Barnala in Punjab.

The stolen copper wires (8-10 kg) were recovered on their disclosure. Further recovery is expected as the investigation continues.

High-Value House Theft – Jewellery Worth ₹21 Lakh Recovered

In a major success, Police Post Digiana solved a high-profile house theft case within days of reporting. On 09.05.2025, a complainant Gurjeet Kour, wife of late Gurjeet Singh, resident of Preet Nagar, Jammu, reported theft of gold and diamond jewellery from her home during the intervening night of 7th/8th May.

Instantly, the police registered a case under FIR No 113/2025 U/S 331(2), 331(4), and 305 BNS was registered at PS Gandhi Nagar.

A dedicated team led by ICPP Digiana, under supervision of SDPO City South and SHO P/S Gandhi Nagar, cracked the case through technical surveillance and human intelligence.

During the course of investigation, the police arrested three persons, including a minor and they confessed their involvement in the theft. On their disclosure, the police successfully recovered Rs 21 lakhs stolen gold / diamond ornaments.

The police have identified them as Safar Ansari (23), resident of Kishanganj, Bihar, at present Gangyal and Ibrahim (25), a resident of Behraich, U.P., at present KC Colony, Gangyal, and their accomplice (however, his name has been withheld as he is minor). However, further investigation is ongoing and further recoveries cannot be ruled out. (Press Release)
