Srinagar:DD, The National Conference (NC) scored a decisive victory in the Rajya Sabha elections held in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, winning three out of four seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to secure one.

The outcome has given a major boost to the Omar Abdullah-led party and strengthened the INDIA bloc’s influence in the Union Territory’s political sphere.

Details availabile with KNC, results Chowdary Ramzan, Sajad Kitchloo, and Sammi Obroi of the National Conference emerged victorious, while the fourth seat went to BJP’s Sat Sharma, who defeated NC’s Imran Nabi Dar after a close contest.

The polling was held earlier in the day at the J&K Assembly complex under tight security and concluded with counting in the evening. Officials confirmed that all 86 legislators participated in the voting, including Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, who cast his vote through postal ballot from detention.

The NC’s strong performance was bolstered by support from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP). Both parties had earlier announced their decision to back the National Conference candidates to “keep the BJP out.” The backing of AIP MLA Sheikh Khursheed proved crucial in the final tally. (KNC)
