National Institute of Sowa – Rigpa organises condolence meet in memory of senior Amchi Gyurmet Namgail Zangpopa

Leh: DD, The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh has organised a condolence meeting on in memory of eminent Sowa-Rigpa scholar and Senior Amchi Gyurmet Namgail Zangpopa, who passed away on 13 April 2025 at the age of 95 years.
Amchi Gyurmet Namgail was among the leading Sowa-Rigpa scholar in India, he was the first Research Officer of Amchi Research Unit (now National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa), Leh.
The condolence meeting started with lighting of butter lamp in memory of Amchi Gyurmet Namgail by Dr Padma Gurmet, Director, NISR, followed by prayer by all the staff members and students of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa. Lectures on life and works of Amchi Gyurmet Namgail is presented by Dr Nawang Tangais, Dr Tsewang Dolma and Mr Rinchan Tundup. Amchi Gyurmet Namgail was born in Timisgam Village in Zangpopa family in the year1930. He has greatly contributed for preservation and promotion of Sowa-Rigpa in Ladakh and published the first formulations book on Sowa-Rigpa with title “Amchi Pharmaco therapeutics”. The demise of Amchi Gyurmet Namgail is great lose to Sowa-Rigpa fraternity in India. Dr Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa shared his working experience with Amchi Gyurmet Namgail and remembered him as one of the greatest scholar and physician of Sowa-Rigpa, he was one of the most resourceful persons with knowledge about theory and practise of Sowa-Rigpa. He has also served as Vice President and Advisor to Ladakh Amchi Sabha for many years. All the staff members and students of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh has expressed grief and condolences with the family members of Amchi Gyurmet Namgail and prayed for his early rebirth.DD
