Srinagar, (TDD) : National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah today welcomed PDP’s support offer stating that its high time to put up a united face to get back what has been snatched from the J&K. He also said that only elected government has the right to nominate five MLAs into the Assembly.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar ahead of the J&K Assembly poll results, Dr Farooq said that he has come to know about PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s support to NC-Congress and he welcomes the statement. “I will accept PDP’s support from the core of my heart. I congratulate the parties for coming together for building a better J&K that will shine within and in the country as well,” he said.
The NC chief that there is a need to put up a united face to pull J&K out of the mess it has been plunged into since August 5, 2019. Asked whether other parties are also approaching NC, he said many parties have already extended support to NC. About challenges post government formation, the NC chief said there are enormous challenges. “J&K was downgraded from a State to UT and that’s the biggest challenge that has to be met. I hope better sense prevails in Delhi also and it (BJP) admits and acknowledged the worth of J&K that has two enemies on its borders,” he said.
To a query about horse-trading, he said let the people do it. “Where will they go if they do horse-trading. They can’t hide,” he said, referring to those trying to side with BJP
About the reports of five MLAs being nominated by LG Manoj Sinha into the J&K Assembly, he said only elected government has the right to select the people. “We don’t want people in the Assembly who aren’t worth it. LG has to only approve what elected government recommends to him,” he said.
To a query about Er Rashid’s advice that government formation should be put on hold till Centre restores statehood, Dr Farooq said he wonders where from Rashid has come. “If he was in jail, who released him and why, when others are languishing in prison. What happened to Rashid’s slogan of plebiscite should be held in Kashmir,” Dr Farooq asked.
On middle east crisis, the NC chief said that conflicts will squeeze the world economy and lead to economic instability in the world. “I urge the world powers to play role in ending the conflict as soon as possible,” he said, adding that “middle east crisis and Russai-Ukraine war should end.” (TDD)
