Srinagar, DD: Senior National Conference (NC) leader Tanvir Sadiq has asserted that his party is prepared with alternative strategies if the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood continues to face delays. Speaking to reporters, Sadiq stated that while NC remains committed to the demand for statehood, it has “Plan B and C” ready in case the central government fails to act promptly.
“We will not sit idle. If statehood is delayed further, we have other strategies in place. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve their democratic rights, and NC will ensure that their aspirations are met,” he said, without divulging details of the party’s alternative plans.
On the liquor policy, Sadiq made it clear that NC will take up the issue in the Assembly. “Let the matter come before the legislature. The National Conference will respond appropriately there,” he remarked, indicating that the party prefers to tackle the subject through institutional channels rather than public debates.
Taking a swipe at Mehbooba Mufti, the NC leader claimed that the PDP president was responsible for much of the political turbulence in J&K. “If you see any controversy or political noise in Jammu and Kashmir, you will find Mehbooba Mufti at the center of it,” he quipped, highlighting the continuing political rivalry between the two former allies-turned-opponents.
With the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir evolving rapidly, the National Conference’s hints at backup strategies suggest that it may be preparing for a stronger political push or legal action if statehood remains elusive. Whether these alternative plans will be revealed in the coming weeks remains to be seen.(DD)
