Jammu , (DD) The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed fiery confrontations on Tuesday as National Conference (NC) MLAs and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary countered the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its protest against the recent lathi charge on daily wage workers.
Amid loud slogans of “Chor Machaye Shor,” NC leaders accused the BJP of political hypocrisy, blaming the party for ignoring the plight of daily wagers during its tenure. The BJP, which had staged a one-day boycott of the House over the issue, returned with renewed attacks on the government, condemning the police action against protesting Jal Shakti department workers.
Deputy CM Choudhary hit back, saying, “The BJP failed to regularize these workers when it had the power. Now, they are playing politics instead of offering real solutions.” NC MLA Mir Saifullah echoed the sentiment, accusing the BJP of exploiting the situation for political gain.
Despite Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather’s repeated calls for order, chaos prevailed in the House as BJP MLAs accused the administration of suppressing workers’ voices through police force. Congress legislators also joined the debate, criticizing both the BJP and the ruling government for failing to resolve the crisis.
Meanwhile, protests outside the Assembly continued, with daily wage workers threatening an indefinite strike from March 20 if their demands remain unmet. With tensions rising, the government faces growing pressure to address the grievances of thousands of struggling workers across Jammu and Kashmir(DD)
