Srinagar, TDD,Hundreds of young protestors gathered outside the residence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar to voice their opposition to the state’s reservation policy. The demonstration, spearheaded by National Conference (NC) MP Ruhullah Mehdi, highlighted concerns over the policy’s impact on specific communities.

In his address to the crowd, Mehdi sharply criticized the current reservation system, calling it divisive and unfair. “The government must ensure fairness and equality in its policies. The current reservation system has left many deserving groups feeling marginalized,” Mehdi stated. He urged the government to review the policy and ensure that it is more inclusive and equitable.

The protest was also supported by leaders from various political parties, including People’s Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Para, who expressed solidarity with the youth. “This protest is not only about reservation but also about the government’s failure to address the needs and aspirations of the younger generation,” Para said.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a key Hurriyat leader, also extended his support, emphasizing the need for justice and transparency in governance. “Policies that discriminate against any section of society are unacceptable. The government must listen to the grievances of the youth,” he said.

Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans, demanding immediate reform of the reservation policy. Many of them expressed frustration over the government’s lack of response to their concerns.

As the protest concluded, Mehdi reaffirmed his commitment to the cause and vowed to continue the demonstration until the youth’s concerns were addressed. “The voices of the youth cannot be ignored. We will continue this protest until a delegation of aspirants meets with the Chief Minister and they come out satisfied with the discussions,” Mehdi declared. (TDD)
