Srinagar,DD: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that ahead of each Assembly session, a Legislature Party meeting is held, and today’s gathering included NC legislators along with independents to frame a plan for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
CM Omar told reporters in Srinagar, “This session is unique as it coincides with the Rajya Sabha polls. We focused on preparing a strategy to ensure success in all four seats,” the Chief Minister said, describing the meeting as crucial.
He expressed gratitude to CPI(M) leader Tarigami and other independents for participating, noting the enthusiasm among NC MLAs and independents. “Given the energy and commitment displayed today, I am confident that the NC will secure all four Rajya Sabha seats,” he added.
Replying to questions on Congress’s absence, Omar said the party held its own internal meeting. “Congress has consistently maintained that it will not allow BJP’s success. Their decision-making depends on the high command, unlike ours, which we take here locally,” he explained.
He added, “The Congress high command will never favour BJP. Locally, they were prepared for bypolls, but the central leadership chose to leave the seat for NC, following which our candidate was announced.”
On the matter of PDP’s support, the Chief Minister said, “Our leader Shami Oberoi met with PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today to request backing for NC’s candidates. Earlier, Dr. Farooq Abdullah also spoke to her. While no public decision has been made, PDP has assured that it will take a stance after internal consultations.”
Responding to remarks from the Leader of Opposition, Omar stated, “We need clarity on who allegedly offered to form a government with BJP. No such offer has been made from our side. The LoP should refrain from making baseless statements,” he said. (KNC)
