Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu,DD, AIIMS Jammu organised a two-day National Neuro-Otology Workshop on 21–22 November, bringing together leading experts, faculty members, and delegates from across the country. The programme focused on specialised training in vertigo evaluation, vestibular diagnostics, and advanced otologic surgeries.
During the inaugural session, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu, conveyed his greetings through a special message. He emphasised AIIMS Jammu’s commitment to strengthening ENT and neuro-otology services in alignment with the Government of India’s vision for accessible, technology-driven healthcare. He highlighted the rapid achievements of the department—including the establishment of the Vertigo Laboratory, high-volume endoscopic procedures, and advanced otologic surgeries—and appreciated the efforts of the organising team. He encouraged all participants to utilise the workshop as a platform for skill enhancement, collaboration, and meaningful academic exchange.

The conference was organised by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Head & Neck Surgery) under the leadership of Dr. Darwin Kaushal (Course Director), Additional Professor, ENT and Dr. Amardeep Singh (Course Co-ordinator), Associate Professor, ENT. Senior residents, junior residents, audiologists, and nursing officers of the department played a key role in the smooth conduct of the scientific sessions and hands-on training activities.
Eminent faculty from across India—including Dr. Prem Sagar, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Dr. Anita Bhandari, Dr. Sushil Kumar Aggarwal, Dr. Ajay Kotwal, Dr. Noor Malik, Dr. Kshitiz Malik, Dr. Vidhu Sharma, and Dr. Nidhin Das—delivered lectures and led practical demonstrations. Sessions on Day 1 covered vestibular physiology, clinical reasoning in vertigo, and hands-on training in video nystagmography (VNG). Day 2 focused on surgical procedures such as myringoplasty, tympanoplasty, cortical mastoidectomy, and other otologic techniques, followed by paper presentations by residents.
Vertigo, imbalance, dizziness, and hearing-related disorders are among the most common yet under-recognised health issues. The workshop aimed to equip clinicians with updated diagnostic protocols, surgical techniques, and evidence-based management strategies to improve patient outcomes.
With strong academic content, national-level faculty participation, and hands-on learning opportunities, the Neuro-Otology Workshop reaffirmed AIIMS Jammu’s growing role as a centre of excellence for advanced ENT services and specialised patient care.DD
