No-Confidence Motion Against Budgam DDC Chairperson to Be Held on April 7

Diplomat Correspondent

Budgam, DD: Nazir Ahmad Khan, the District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson of Budgam, will face a no-confidence motion on April 7, a historic first for Jammu and Kashmir’s third-tier Panchayati Raj system.

The Deputy Commissioner of Budgam has officially scheduled the council meeting at 11:30 am on April 7 to address the motion. The decision follows a recent directive from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, urging authorities to move forward with the motion against Khan.

This development comes after a series of unsuccessful election bids by several DDC members in the 2024 Assembly elections, with some, including the DDC chairperson of Baramulla, even forfeiting their deposits. However, notable victories in the polls were achieved by Irfan Hafiz Lone, Mehraj Malik, and Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, who emerged as strong contenders.

This no-confidence motion marks a crucial moment in local governance and political dynamics in the region.(DD)
