No patch-up with BJP newspaper, report baseless: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, (DD) National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, today dismissed reports suggesting that the party was exploring a political understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He categorically stated that there was “no question of any sort of patch-up” with the BJP, emphasizing that the NC’s manifesto and principles remain above all political considerations.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Sadiq strongly condemned a report published by a local newspaper, which claimed that NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah was in Delhi to mend ties with the BJP. “This is an irresponsible statement and deserves condemnation. There is nothing like that. The BJP continues to speak against us, and we stand firmly by our principles,” he said.

Refuting the claims, Sadiq clarified that Dr. Farooq Abdullah was not in Delhi for any political engagement but was, in fact, in Mumbai. He urged the media to verify facts before publishing speculative reports that could mislead the public.

The clarification comes amid speculation over shifting political equations in Jammu and Kashmir, where alliances have historically played a crucial role in government formation. However, the NC has consistently positioned itself as a staunch opponent of the BJP, particularly on issues such as the abrogation of Article 370, the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, and special rights for its residents.

Sadiq reaffirmed that the party remains committed to its ideological stand and will not compromise under any circumstances. “Our commitment is to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. There is no room for speculation. The NC will continue to fight for the aspirations and rights of the people, without aligning with those who oppose them,” he said.(DD)
