Non-Support from Ruhullah Won’t Impact My Prospects: Aga Syed Mahmood

“Budgam By-Poll Will Be Decided by Party Credibility, Not Personal Loyalties”

Diplomat Correspondent

Budgam: DD, National Conference (NC) candidate Aga Syed Mahmood on Wednesday said that the absence of support from former minister and incumbent parliament member, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi would not affect his performance in the ongoing Assembly by-election in Budgam.

Speaking to the KNT, Aga Mahmood asserted that the National Conference is larger than any individual and enjoys grassroots support across the constituency.
“NC created Ruhullah, Ruhullah didn’t create NC. He has supporters within his family and among well-wishers, which is fine, but ultimately NC supporters will vote for the party,” he said.

The NC candidate emphasized that the by-election is being contested in the name of the party and its legacy rather than individual influence.
“An individual is not fighting this election; it is the National Conference that is in the fray. Our workers and loyal voters stand firmly with the party,” he said.

Expressing optimism about his chances, Aga Mahmood acknowledged that the electoral battle in Budgam remains challenging.
“I am hopeful of victory, though every election is a tough process that tests one’s resolve,” he said.

Responding to a query about protests staged against the Deputy Chief Minister by some locals, Aga Mahmood downplayed the incident. “Only a few well-wishers from Magam and Nowgam had expressed their grievances. Such small protests are natural during election time,” he stated.

He reiterated that the credibility and performance of the National Conference would ultimately determine the outcome of the Budgam by-election.
“Our strength lies in the party’s history, its leadership, and the trust of the people,” he added. [KNT]
