Northern Command Organises Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti and Defence Works Seminar in Udhampur

Northern Command Chief emphasises on development of civil-military end use infrastructure helping both local population and the Armed Forces

Udhampur: DD, First ever Regional Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti (PMGS) and Defence Works Seminar for Armed Forces was organised at Headquarters at Northern Command, Udhampur on 26-27 Aug 2025.
The main focus of seminar was to bring together domain experts from military, government and industry who brainstormed innovative approaches for improving connectivity, reducing logistics costs and boosting overall operational efficiency of the Armed Forces in difficult terrain and remote areas of Northern Command.


The event also highlighted the role of modern infrastructure in addressing the strategic needs of the Armed Forces under the Gati Shakti initiative.
Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti University and luminaries from MoR, MoRTH, DPIIT, BISAG-N, ULIP NLDSL joined the seminar and shared the potential Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti platform presents for the Armed Forces.
The two day seminar gave deep insight to officers of Northern Command about the scope of infrastructure development in Jammu & Kashmir and how to dovetail military requirements in civil infrastructure projects.
The dual end use infrastructure projects would bring in development to the region while enhancing security and defence preparedness.
Meanwhile, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, SM, in his key note address emphasised the importance of Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti projects in Northern Theatre towards development of civil-military end use infrastructure helping both the local population and the Armed Forces.
He highlighted that certain important PMGS projects are already at advance stage of approval and there are many projects which Northern Command would like to get included in the overall scheme.
The seminar also saw discussions on projects being undertaken through Defence Works along Western and Northern borders and their integration with the overall infrastructure development.
