Jammu: TDD,All India Backward Classes Union (R), chairman, Mohammad Latif Qureshi has hailed the government’s decision and stressing the need for 27% reservations for OBCs:
In a statement to the press, the OBC chairman stated that they wholeheartedly welcome the government’s decision to formally wind up the Jammu and Kashmir Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission (SEBCC).
“This move paves the way for a more inclusive and equitable representation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the JK UT, ” he said.
“However, we strongly advocate for the grant of 27% reservations to OBCs, instead of the existing 8%, ” he added.
He further said that this increase is essential to ensure that the OBC community receives its rightful share of opportunities and representation.
The existing 8% reservation quota for OBCs is grossly inadequate, considering the significant population of OBCs in the region. By increasing the reservation quota to 27%, the government can provide a more level playing field for OBCs to compete and succeed.
We urge the government to take immediate action to address this long-standing issue and ensure that OBCs receive their rightful share of reservations. This move will not only promote social justice and equality but also empower the OBC community to contribute more meaningfully to the region’s development.TDD
