OBC Union Seeks Land Allocation for Community Facilities in Jammu and Kashmir

The Diplomat Desk

Jammu : TDD ,The All India Backward Classes Union handed over a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, stating that land allocations should be sanctioned for the establishment of Bhawans and residential blocks in both Jammu and Srinagar.
The memorandum outlines several key objectives, including the provision of free residential facilities for OBC individuals who currently lack accommodation in both cities. The proposed facilities would also serve as centers for OBC students who frequently travel for educational purposes, and would be available as venues for organizing marriages free of cost for economically disadvantaged people from all categories.

The union’s justification stated that the initiative is in line with the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir UT towards social welfare and inclusive development. Mohammad Latif Qureshi, president of the ABCU, said that this project would bring much relief and opportunities to OBC communities, especially to students and those in need of accommodation.

The proposal comes as part of broader efforts to enhance the overall development and welfare of OBC communities in the Union Territory. The union has requested the Lieutenant Governor to consider their proposal for suitable land allocation in both major cities, highlighting the territory’s empowerment to allot land for public welfare initiatives.TDD
