Jammu, (DD): In a major relief for economically weaker sections, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced 200 units of free electricity for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he introduced free travel for women in government-run electric buses, promoting both women’s mobility and sustainable transport.
Unveiling these initiatives during the budget presentation, Abdullah emphasized his government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development. The move aims to ease the financial burden on low-income families while encouraging eco-friendly public transport.
“This budget is about empowering people, ensuring equitable growth, and making essential services more accessible,” he stated in the legislative assembly.
The initiatives mark a progressive step under the National Conference-led government, which has prioritized welfare schemes and infrastructural development in its first budget since assuming office in October 2024.(DD)
