Jammu :TDD,Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday. Several key issues formed part of agenda for discussions at the meeting scheduled at the Ministry of Home Affairs, with statehood to Jammu and Kashmir being at the very forefront.
The high-level discussion is particularly important since it represents Abdullah’s second meeting with Shah at a time when debates over the political status of Jammu and Kashmir continue to dominate national discourse. The status of the territory was fundamentally altered in August 2019, when it was reorganized and converted into a Union Territory, effectively ending its special status under Article 370.
During the meeting, Abdullah, who assumed office as the first Chief Minister of the reconstituted region in October this year, emphasized the importance of restoring statehood to ensure political and administrative stability in the region. The transformation of the former state into a Union Territory has been a contentious issue, with various political leaders from the region consistently advocating for the restoration of its previous status.
The discussion between Abdullah and Shah also covered the development of the region, security-related issues, and administrative ones. Being the head of one of the most important regions in India, Abdullah wanted to constructively engage with the center by discussing various political and administrative issues that have emerged post-2019 reorganization.TDD
