Omar Abdullah urges bureaucrats to uphold integrity amid concerns over elected Govt’s authority

The Diplomat Desk

Srinagar,(TDD): Omar Abdullah, National Conference (NC) vice president, made a strong appeal to bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, urging them to maintain their professionalism and resist any moves that might undermine the authority of the next elected government.

Addressing concerns about potential changes to governance structures, Abdullah claimed that efforts were being made to shift key decision-making powers away from the incoming chief minister and elected officials. He referenced recent developments suggesting that powers traditionally held by the chief minister could be transferred to the Lieutenant Governor.

Abdullah raised these concerns in a post on X, pointing to what he perceives as the BJP’s acceptance of its political decline in the region. “Why else would the chief secretary be tasked with altering the transaction of business rules to curtail the chief minister’s powers and hand them over to the LG?” Abdullah questioned.

Citing internal information from the civil secretariat, Abdullah’s remarks come at a crucial time as Jammu and Kashmir gears up for its next phase of governance. He advised officers to exercise caution and resist any external pressure that could erode the effectiveness of the incoming administration.(TDD)
