Says Centre must fulfil its promise; expresses concern over Himachal calamity, awaits SC hearing on August 8

Srinagar,(DD)Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on today called upon national political parties to raise their voice in Parliament for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, saying it is a matter of honour and constitutional responsibility.
Speaking to reporters outside his Gupkar residence, Omar said, “I have written to all national political parties, urging them to vocally support the restoration of statehood to J&K in Parliament. This was a promise made not just in public meetings but also on the floor of the House.”
He expressed hope that the Central Government would act on its commitment, failing which, he said, all eyes would be on the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear the matter on August 8.
Omar also expressed shock and grief over the recent natural calamity in Himachal Pradesh, where heavy rains and landslides have caused widespread devastation. He conveyed solidarity with the affected families and hoped for speedy relief and rehabilitation efforts.
On the tourism front, Omar noted that tourist footfall is improving, with visitors arriving from Gujarat and other states. He added that the Amarnath Yatra concluded peacefully, with over four lakh pilgrims performing the holy darshan.
His remarks come at a time when political and legal focus on Jammu and Kashmir is intensifying ahead of a crucial constitutional hearing in the apex court(DD)
