Srinagar, (DD)Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Tuesday said that the Omar Abdullah-led government is making determined efforts to ensure the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and special status, while also working tirelessly to bring vital infrastructure to the region.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Choudhary expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the Centre’s recent approval of 19 key road and tunnel projects worth Rs 10,637 crore for Jammu and Kashmir.
“These projects have been approved after intense follow-ups and multiple visits by CM Omar Abdullah to New Delhi. Unlike those who once visited Delhi to facilitate the downgrading of J&K, our Chief Minister went there to push for development,” Choudhary said.
He stressed that the approval reflects both the Centre’s and the J&K administration’s commitment to long-term development and connectivity in the Union Territory.
Reiterating the government’s political stance, he said:
“We are fully committed to the restoration of statehood and special status of Jammu and Kashmir. It is not just a demand—it’s our mission.”
Choudhary also took aim at the BJP, claiming that none of its leaders won recent assembly seats on their own strength.
“Let there be narco tests on all BJP MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition, to establish the truth behind their statements,” he said.
On the issue of bunker demands in border areas, Choudhary said the matter lies with the Centre but expressed hope that approvals would be granted soon.
“Operation Sindoor showed that both Jammu and Srinagar felt the impact of cross-border threats. The need for bunkers is no longer limited to border areas,” he added.(DD)
